I've tried a number of strategies... Personal Wiki (JSPWiki, then Instiki), Moleskines, simple text-files and whatnot.

Now I'm using [Journler](http://journler.com/) and it's the best solution yet.

I can tag stuff the way I want, and categorize entries in different context.

If you're on a Mac I suggest looking at it.

I'm still a paper person ;-). I've used [VoodooPad](http://flyingmeat.com/voodoopad/) in the past but I still find myself jotting stuff down and really like the idea of something that I don't need a whole laptop for. That's where it will end up eventually (in one form or the other), but I like the physical act of writing it down.

I have heard of Journler but have not tried it yet.

I recommend you go with a wiki. You can setup one for personal and one for work. As you move from company to company just do a dump and load it into you personal wiki.
