Volunteering for Pima Democrats

Posted by Warner Onstine on April 27, 2005

So, what do I propose doing? As a party we need better tools to allow us to communicate with each other. What’s going on? Who’s my group leader, is there a group leader? How do I get in touch with others in my area who are interested in helping? I think that this election has brought forth a lot of new volunteers who are interested in helping to make this party a strong party (and one that has a strong vision for where we want to go). In order to do this we need good tools for calendaring, scheduling meetups, finding out who to contact to try and volunteer, internal communications through a wiki-like system, and the ability to update the Web site with the most up-to-date information.

So, I have offered up a beta version of Caelum (soon to be renamed) for managing the site as well as all the communications, events, etc. Once things have been put more solidly in place I will keep you all up-to-date.

Site in dire need of an update

Posted by Warner Onstine on April 27, 2005

I also think that it would be good to keep the top nav scheme, but I want to completely redo the information architecture. What will I use? I put a lot of links up the last time, but haven’t really put up any content for it. I want to share my photos, but haven’t found a really easy way to do it. Just found this, which may convince me to use Flickr.

Other changes? Well, I will be moving away from Blosxom, not that I dislike Blosxom, it’s a good blogging tool, but I’m getting tired of new plugins that absolutely require extra Perl modules (and I absolutely hate installing Perl modules they always seem to screw up something or other). I have a new server so I will finally be moving over to a Java blogging tool, until my tool is complete. I will also be moving my more java-centric posts over to Sandcast once I have a blogging tool setup over there, so this will definitely change the tone of this blog to a more personal nature (with my fun tech toys thrown in). So, once I figure out what content will go where that will change the overall architecture of this site (as well as what will go on the Sandcast site).
